A redheaded guy with crooked teeth sits at a kitchen table, holding a broken toaster between his hands, staring without moving at the reflection of himself in the metal. It is late afternoon on a late summer day and the only light in the room comes from on oranger-than-orange sun, rushing through the dusty screens of the windows & doors. Dust scatters & dances in the hot light which falls on the back of the redheaded guy's neck.

He stares at himself and thinks about how he is just sitting and staring at himself, which only makes him sit longer and stare harder. He suddenly remembers that he forgot to mail the payment for the phone bill. He will be charged a late fee. His credit will be fucked. The phone begins to ring but he does not answer it.

The dry rubberband of last Wednesday's rolled copy of a poorly written newspaper breaks with a snap and flies scatter into the long shadows.
